A week from the Budget, the Office for Budget Responsibility — the independent fiscal watchdog, whose headquarters sit in a small office at the top of the Ministry of Justice building — is likely to be buzzing with staff double-checking their figures, City A.M. reported. Forecasters have had their work cut out this week, the outlet said.

Inflation accelerated to 3.5% from 3.1% in the year to September, according to the Office for National Statistics, the BBC reported. The BBC also reported that inflation and government borrowing are at their highest for a year ahead of next week’s Budget.

City A.M. framed the run-up to the Budget in terms of Healey’s fiscal “dilemma.”
