Scientists have created the first detailed three-dimensional map of the brain’s lipids, uncovering what ScienceDaily described as a hidden layer of organization in the brain.

Lipids are the fatty molecules essential for brain structure and communication, ScienceDaily said. Researchers built the map by analyzing millions of measurements taken from mouse brains.

The analysis identified 539 distinct chemical zones, ScienceDaily reported.
