Charlie Savage scored his first goal of the season against the club managed by his father, Robbie, as Reading routed Peterborough 5-0 in the FA Cup first round at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday.
Daniel Kyerewaa opened the scoring in the 26th minute after Andy Rinomhota played him through, his effort deflecting in. Jack Marriott headed in Haydon Roberts’s cross in the 34th minute, and Savage finished into the top corner in first-half stoppage time after the ball ran off Marriott. Jamie Reid added a fourth in the 72nd minute, lifting the ball over Alex Bass after Paudie O’Connor nodded down Savage’s free-kick, and scored again four minutes later when Liam Fraser put him clean through. Savage was man of the match in the day’s most one-sided tie.
National League Kidderminster beat League One Doncaster 3-0. Lewis Walker fired in after 22 minutes, Maz Kouhyar slotted home in the 36th minute from David Davis’s pass, and Davis turned in a Kouhyar rebound shortly after Doncaster had a penalty claim denied. Manager Paul Wotton said: “They are a League One team at the end of the day, no matter what the scoreline suggests.”
League Two Exeter upset League One leaders Huddersfield 2-1 away. Jack Taylor finished Luca Woodhouse’s cross after 12 minutes, Ibane Bowat headed Cameron Humphreys’s corner in early in the second half, and Charlie Cummins scored the winner with nine minutes left at the end of a move finished by Reece Cole’s cutback.
Blackpool needed a winner in the 118th minute to complete a 2-1 comeback at Hornchurch. Henry Hearn put the National League side ahead, Jordan Brown volleyed the equaliser in the 55th minute, and substitute Josh Bowler curled home after Hornchurch’s Henry Sandat was sent off.
Altrincham lost to Notts County 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw and goalless extra time. Jacob Bedeau opened the scoring, Lucas Weaver and Lewis Banks responded for Altrincham before Callum Roberts forced extra time in the 84th minute, and Aidan Barlow, Sam Taylor and Eddy Jones all missed in the shootout.
Fleetwood, who beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup this season, lost 2-1 at home to fellow League Two side Rochdale, decided by Baba Adeeko’s extra-time goal. Reading, Kidderminster, Exeter and Blackpool advance to the second-round draw.
